Windows 10 Version 1607 Start Menu Changes

When you first click on the Start Menu button after upgrading to Windows 10 1607 you will notice that the start menu is very different from the previous versions of Windows 10, as seen in the screen shot below.  This document will quickly point out how to access the sections of the Start Menu that you are used to seeing on Windows 10.

Below is another screenshot of the Start Menu with some identifying tags.  Please look for the corresponding bullets to find out what the tags are showing you.

  1. This is the new location of the Power button.  Click on this icon  to put your computer into sleep mode (if applicable), shut down your computer, or restart your computer.
  2. This is the new location of the Settings button.  Click on this icon  to access and manage various settings such as: System options; Devices; Personalization; Ease of Access; etc…  If you would like to look around at these settings but are concerned about harming your system, please contact the Helpdesk and ask for an IT person to remote connect to your system and walk through those options and what they do with you.
  3. This is the new location of your User button.  Click on this icon  to quickly lock your computer or sign out of the computer without shutting down or restarting.  You can also temporarily suspend your active session and allow someone else to log on to the computer using the Switch Account menu option.
  4. This is a hamburger or tri-bar menu.  When you click on this icon  it will expand the far left hand pane of the start menu to show full title names of the options on this portion of the start menu as seen in the screen shot below.
  5. This is the all applications menu.  This will always show the fully expanded applications menu, with the most used applications listed at the top.  When you pin an application to the start menu it will now show up on the live tiles section to the right of the applications list.
