How to Update Software on a PC with Software Center


  1. Open Software Center from the start menu or desktop if the icon appears on your desktop. To open Software Center from the start menu click on the following buttons: 
    Start Button --> All Apps --> Microsoft System Center --> Software Center

  2. Once Software Center opens, change your view setting to List View. To change your view setting, click on the view icon you prefer on the right side of the Software Center window under the Search field. The options are List View or Tiled View
  3. On the left side of the Software Center window click on the Applications button.

    All available software is listed in the application windows. Install all updates marked as new. If your not sure if a listed package is an update, compare the new version number to the version installed on your system. To view the current version of most software go to the Help menu and choose About. Generally, the about screen lists the currently installed version of the software.

    To install a software update click the tile for the desired software then click the Install button.

  4. You will see the installation status in the application’s detail window where you clicked install.
  5. If you need to check on the installation status or need to see when a program was updated click on the Installation Status button on the left side of the Software Center window.
